Meet Theo Mercer

My first repairs were uneven. But they worked.

Sew • Mend • Keep

Hi, I’m Theo, the founder of CALDREVON. I began sewing for an ordinary reason: useful clothes kept developing small problems that did not seem worth throwing them away for.

A loose button. A hem coming down. A worn knee. None of it was a disaster, so I picked up a needle.

One thing led to another

A replaced button, then everything after it.

  1. FirstA replaced button.Uneven, slightly off-centre, and still on the shirt years later.
  2. ThenA stronger hem.The second job was neater than the first. That was the whole lesson.
  3. NextA borrowed sewing machine.Intimidating until the setup was written down in order.
  4. And nowA growing pile of offcuts.Scrap fabric to practise on before touching anything that matters.

Nothing here needed talent. Every step just needed the one before it.

What helped most

Not natural talent. A sequence.

What I expected

To have a natural talent for it.

Some people just can, and I assumed I was not one of them. The uneven button said otherwise.
What actually worked

Learning each task as a sequence.

Thread, knot, stitch, finish. Written down in order, practised in order, then done for real.
The practical approach

Understand the tool. Practise on scrap. One useful job at a time.

I created CALDREVON to share that approach with beginners. Three instructions, in the same order every time.

  1. 1Understand the tool.A needle, a machine, a seam ripper. What it does before what it can make.
  2. 2Practise on scrap fabric.Where an uneven line costs nothing and teaches everything.
  3. 3Attempt one useful job.A button, a hem, a pouch. Finished, worn and used.

Every guide follows those three steps, so the skill arrives in the order you can actually use it.

What the guides are for

Not a professional tailor. Enough confidence to keep what you own.

The guides are not about becoming a professional tailor. They are about gaining enough confidence to sew, mend and keep more of what you already own.

What I believe

Sew the repair. Finish the project. Keep the skill.

You do not need perfect stitching or a room full of equipment. You need clear actions you can practise on scrap fabric and use in everyday life.

If there is a garment in your wardrobe with one small problem, that is where these guides begin.

Not every garment can be altered safely at home. Complex tailoring, valuable garments and structural alterations may need an experienced professional.
